Miss Riss Interiors: Amber's Baby Girl Room

Did you know my sister is having a baby? She is! Its a girl this time and we are all excited. She has asked me to help her figure out some decorating options. Working with her, this is what I came up.

I couldn't find a good picture of a yellow crib so the dresser is representing.

What dear sister do you think? Did I interpret what you were trying to tell me correctly?

Something I thought you might like is to have the crib look worn. Like this dresser (created and photographed by the talented Miss Mustard Seed), but in yellow.

Miss Mustard Seed also has tutorials on how to achieve this look.

Let me know sister if you like it and if you want more ideas.

Miss Riss.

P.S. When you know what you are going to name her we can get the right letter to go on her wall. Pebbles in My Pocket sells some in there Orem store.

When done. Take out and enjoy.

Food Friday: Taco Soup

This is a little recipe that is great for a girl with little time to cook and little experience in the kitchen (aka. me).

Ingredients:
1/5 lb. Ground beef
1/4 c. Chopped Onion
1 1/2 c. Water
1 can (16 oz.)Kidney beans
1 can (16 oz.) Stewed Tomatoes
1 can (8 oz) Tomato Sauce
2 Tbs. Taco Seasoning
1 Small Avocado (optional)
Grated Chedar Cheese
Corn Chips
Sour Cream (you can substitute plain yogurt)

What you do:
Brown ground beef. Drain off the fat. Add the water, tomatoes, beans, tomato sauce, onion and taco seasoning. Cover it and let it simmer for 15 minuets. Put it in your individual bowl and top it off with cheese, corn chips, sour cream and avocado.

I have the ground beef pre cooked and frozen so I just take out a bag and defrost it in the microwave before adding it in. This saves me a ton of same day cooking time.

This recipe is very yummy and filling. Plus it makes left overs and is easy to double if your family eats allot. Most importantly both me and my husband like it.

Have a great weekend,
Miss Riss

Brett and Little Person.

Brett and I got to watch this princess for a bit. I loved it. Not just because she is cute and very well behaved, but because I loved watching Brett talke to her and help her to be happy when she got board. He completely ate her up. It was so cute. Every time I see these pictures it makes me happy. Brett is so great with kids, especially babies. It was a great glimpse into what he will be like when we are blessed with kids of our own. He will be awesome and I love him all the more for it. Oh my favorite picture is the last one.

Mom and Dad

I am blessed with 4 parents. These are them that I lovingly call my Texas parents. They are the ones that Super S and Miss E belong to. When they came to visit we snapped a few photos. Amongst them were these. There are allot and I am hoping that the resolution via the blog will be good enough for my mom to download them and print them.

I love them very much. They have taught me many things (all of which I needed to know) and even survived my teenaged years.

Bye for now,
Miss Riss

Cousin Dear

My cousin Kourtney has been staying with me on the weekends for the last few weeks so she can be near her fiance until she gets married next month (YEA!). I absolutely love having her around. She is one of those people that motivate you from example to be better. I am so glad she is part of my life. She also LOVES to organize. She says it is a challenge and if you have seen all the things I have in my house you would agree. Yesterday we spent most of the day cleaning and organizing. She is FAST. We got the bathroom and all but the dishes done in the kitchen.

You see that there? Its a floor!

Then today I came home and found that my living room had been finished and the dishes all done. There are still a few boxes that need my attention, but it is wonderful. You can actually sit on the couch and see the surface of the desk! She is AMAZING in so many ways and honestly just made my life ten times better and more functional.

Thank you SO much Kourtney. See you when you get back. :-)

Cabin Fever

My Family owns a cabin near Salt Lake City. Every now and then Brett and I will high tail it up there to escape from the world and occasionally venture into Salt Lake. Our last excursion was for our Anniversary/Back to School trip.

The cabin is called Fry's Dream which always makes me think of fish.
There is a basketbal hoop out back. I think I won the game of horse.
I must say that I love these Swedish curtains and the indian blanket. I would love to get to decorate it.
We also made it to Salt Lake and most importantly the Cheesecake Factory. There we indulged ourselves in really good food that included a delicious slice of mango coconut cheese cake. Sigh, it was so yummy. I died and went to tropical paradise. This is Brett candid, or perhaps it was his reaction to my eating the cheesecake.

Our trip also included a trip to Antropologie (where I found a dress that I love but will not
buy), and walk around Temple Square that included going to the beehive house.

Salt Lake City Temple

The trip was wonderful and not nearly long enough. We love going to the cabin and look forward to taking our kids there for family vacation someday. Maybe Amber and David can come up and we can have a little party there.

Pancakes

A while ago Brett woke up and wasn't feeling to great. In an attempt to make him smile I made him this.

Silly and rather sloppy, but it made him laugh, wich made me feel good. I love that the little things make him happy.

We Like These Things

Quick photo list of things that Brett and I like. All of these picture were taken in the model home we feel in love with. I should have brought my camera with me when I went with Brett. There were so many more things I could have taken pictures of.

1. The color green in a bathroom and this bird art.

 2. Cubby storage by back/garage door.

3. Catch all spot for adults.

4. Islands you can eat at.

5. This backsplash....and the pears. Shame I don't like to eat them. They have such a pretty color.

6. Window seats, especially when they are on the landing half way up the stairs and come with shelves.

7. I also like the railing on the stairs

 8. Study nook area at the top of the stairs. Still in a public area but not a noisy one.

9. Brett LOVES this master bedroom. He loves the colors and how it feels clean. I like it too. The patterns of the curtains and the bed spread especially.

10. A master retreat. While not a requirement it would be nice to have for stay-in dates when their is no babysitter to be had.

The end.
